Greetings alumni and friends of Bishop Noll Institute! With spring and warmer temperatures in the air, the thoughts of the end of school and summer are starting to preoccupy everyone’s mind. But there is much happening on the BNI campus and much work to be done before the last day of school.

From the Development Office, Noll recently held the 28th annual Emporium – A Home Like Noll Other. This is our largest single day fundraiser for scholarships. Months of work, time and preparation culminated in an evening with music, cocktails, silent and live auctions. Over $60,000 was raised and will go towards scholarship funds. Attendees were treated to music by Standing Ovation, food provided by Comforts Catering of Saint John, Indiana.

The months of work could not have been done without the dedication of our committee members: This year’s committee comprised of several Noll alumni and current parents. Matt Chico ’02; Roseanne Gomez Cabrera’73; Adrienne Gomez ’70; Melissa Hickey; Lisa Kozlowski Kusiak’88; Mary Ellen O’Neill; Carmen & Robert Rodriguez; Juli Korem Sandoval ’82; Lori Prahovich Whelan 85 and Lisa N. Woodruff and numerous parent volunteers, and the generosity of alumni, friends and local businesses aided in this successful event for our students.

Along with the Emporium, this year Noll honored two distinguished community members at the Hall of Honor. Cal Bellamy, was chosen for his Outstanding Leadership and Mary Ellen Smith was honored with the Outstanding Service Award as a former Dean here at Noll. Cal has been a strong support of Noll and Catholic education across Northwest Indiana. Mary Ellen Smith severed as a teacher, dean of girls and athletic coach. Congratulations to Mr. Bellamy and Ms. Smith for your devotion and support.

In academic news, a special lunch was held by the Hammond Rotary Club on Tuesday as they honored the top ten seniors from every Hammond high school.

Noll was well represented by our top ten. Congratulations to: John Mullaney of Hammond, IN, Carlos Sahagun of Hammond, IN, Elizabeth Wojcinski of  Highland, IN, Adam Kalinowski of Highland, IN, Malory Rokosz of Whiting, IN, Brittany O’Keefe of Hammond, IN, Miena Gorgi of Calumet City, IL, Carlos Arredondo of East Chicago, IN, Kristen Carr  - Lansing, IL and Jennie Bell of East Chicago, IN. In alumni and friends news, save the date of July 20 for the Annual BNI Golf Outing, we will once again hold our outing at Innsbrook Country Club in Merrillville. This years Golf Outing Planning Committee will consist of: Debbie Jakubielski Dahlkamp ‘83 Gabby Origel Churchill ’88 and Juli Korem Sandoval ’82 with support form our golf pro – Dennis Koilboski. In other Noll news, Dean of Students, Sheila Kelly announced her retirement. Miss Kelly has been at Noll for over forty years and has been and continues to be an integral part of the Noll community. Kelly began her career in the classroom, has held many positions and currently serves as Dean of Students Affairs. She has provided leadership and guidance to thousands of students, faculty and staff members throughout her tenure.
